Abstract

To investigate the effect of L-arginine on liver damage in severe acute pancreatitis(SAP).SAP models were induced in rats ,then the rats were injected with L-Arg、L-NAME and normal saline respectively ,The levels of TNF-α and malondialdehyde(MDA) in blood were measured, the change of ALT、AST and LDH in serum was detected, the pathology alteration of liver and pancreas was also observed. In L-Arg group, the levels of TNF-α and MDA in blood were significantly lower than those in NS group (P0.05), the AST、ALT and LDH in serum were decreased too (P0.05).The liver and pancreatic pathologic damage score improved. In L-NAME group, the liver function and liver tissue had greater injury (P0.05).[Conclusion]During the course of SAP, L-Arg could reduce levels of TNF-α and oxygen free radicals, and is beneficial to prevent liver damage.
