Abstract

The Chinese scholar painting is an integrated art that intensively displays painters' extensive erudition. It came into being between the Northern and the Southern Dynasties;developed in the Tang and the Song dynasties;prospered in the Yuan, the Ming and the Qing dynasties;matured in modern and contemporary history. It lays stress on the subjective re-ink style and pen and ink style, whose theme is about plum, orchid, bamboo and chrysanthemum,as well as flowers and birds, etc. Thus, drawing shifts from the traditional object-imaged analog to symbolic expressing, and the traditional Chinese painting tends to be more and more expressive.
