Abstract

Arbitrariness principle of linguistic signs put forward by Saussure in his Course in General Linguistics has been under heated discussion.Based on the arbitrariness principle of linguistic signs,the paper puts forward its understanding and thinking from the following aspects: no natural relationship between signifier and signified,arbitrariness and establishment by usage,single signs and compound signs.
