Comparision of postoperative shallow anterior chamber between compound and traditional trabeculectomy

Objective To investigate the incidence of shallow anterior chamber after compound and traditional trabeculectomy.Methods One hundred and forty-eight eyes of 124 glaucoma patients were divided into groups A and B with 62 cases in each group.Seventy-six eyes in group A underwent compound trabeculectomy in which extra removable scleral-flap suture,mitomycin and viscoelastic was applied.Seventy-two eyes in group B underwent traditional trabeculectomy.The postoperative incidence of shallow anterior chamber was observed and statistically analyzed.Results There was significant difference in the postoperative incidence of shallow anterior chamber between group A(17.1%,13 eyes) and group B(40.3%,29 eyes)(χ2=4,P=0.002).Conclusions Compound trabeculectomy is a better method in keeping the depth of anterior chamber after operation,which might decrease the postoperative incidence of shallow anterior chamber and promote the success rate of operation.
