Survey on the knowledge,high risk behavior and HIV/syphilis infection rate among men who have sex with men of site and online types in Shenyang

Objective To investigate the related knowledge,high risk behavior and HIV/syphilis infection rate among men who have sex with men(MSM) in Shenyang,so as to promote AIDS control and prevention for them.Methods Face-to-face questionnaire interview was conducted among 900 MSM recruited by using Respondent Driven Sampling(RDS) method from trained investigators,monitoring on HIV,syphilis and HIV.Variables included social demographic characteristics,HIV/AIDS awareness,sexual behaviors,the status of the intervention and HIV/syphilis infection rate.Results The rate of HIV/AIDS awareness was 91.3%.The rate of anal sex during the past 6 months was 86.9% and only 50.0% of them used condom consistently.The prevalence of HIV and syphilis were 9.3% and 11.0% respectively.The kind of site subjects had higher rate of commercial sex with men and sex with women.The kind of online subjects had higher rate of AIDS awareness,homosexual and the first sexual partner was men.Conclusions The rate of high risk behavior was high,so were the prevalence of HIV and syphilis among all kinds of MSM.They might become a source of HIV/AIDS epidemic.It was urgent to conduct effective health education and behavioral intervention targeting for them.
