Abstract

Factor analysis and cluster analysis are made for grading urban land among different cities. Eight factors, including city location, city scale, intensity of economic current, out-put level of urban land, administrative level of city industrial structure, level of urban infra-structure, potentiality of urban land, and quality of urban environment, and twenty-six indexes, are selected. The prefecture-level cities of Hunan are taken as specimen for the analyses. The result of research shows that the lands of the twelve prefecture-level cities of Hunan can be divided into five grades. Introducing factor analysis and cluster analysis into the study of grading urban land among cities can contribute to the scientification of urban land grading. This method can also be applied to urban land grading inside cities, and to regional and national agricultural land grading.
