Abstract
Based on the hierarchy of rock and their mechanic characteristic, the physical essence on rock fragmentation by explosion loading, the effects of the explosive velocity and the charge on the size of rock fragmentation and the damage of remaining rock by blasting are researched. It is pointed out that it is an effective measure by which the rock fragmentation is controlled to select the variety of explosive and to determine the specific charge accurately. It is also pointed out that the damage area in surrounding rock will be reduced greatly if the rock fragmentation sizes are controlled reasonably according to blasting purpose. The achievements in the present paper are significant for designing the accurate charge in blasting engineering.
