Water pollution and control of the Huaihe River Basin

Based on monitoring data of the main pollution indexes,including COD_(Mn) and NH_3-N,water pollution status of the Huaihe River Basin was assessed,and water quality variations of the main stream of the Huaihe River,monitoring sections across provincial boundaries and the whole basin over the years were analyzed.According to the monitoring data of discharge outlets on the rivers,variation of pollution loads and main pollutants discharged into main rivers in four provinces,including Henan,Anhui,Jiangsu,and Shandong Province were evaluated.Difficulties in water pollution prevention of the Huaihe River Basin were briefly analyzed on the basis of water pollution accidents occurring,status of water quality and main pollutants into rivers.Problems in further water pollution control and water resources protection were discussed according to the economic development and utilization of water resources.
