The Dilemma of "Realism" in the 20~(th) Century China

Realism as a means of creation was first introduced by Liang Qi-chao in his important article On the Relationship between Fiction and Mass Administration in 1920.In the discourse practice of western learning being introduced into China in the 20th century,both the discourse contention for the nomenclature of and its concrete interpretations and practice have been distinctly tinted with characteristics.Subjected to rigorous filtration and selection in the localization process,the proposition formerly belonging to the literary methodology was once degenerated into the discourse hegemony in literary ontology,thus having led modern Chinese literature to an increasingly narrower alley of culture.This paper attempts to propose some macro-scrutiny of and reflections upon the dilemma of realism in the context of the 20th century culture from the perspective of modernity.
