Abstract

Objective: To explore the effect of single-visist root canal treatment on teeth with chronic apical periodontitis using contemporary technique of canal cleaning, shaping and obturation in the aged. Method: 142 cases with chronic apical periodontitis of aged were randomly divided into two groups, the observation group(n=70) and the control group(n=72).The observation group were given single-visist root canal treatment, and the control group were given multiple-visist root canal treatment. Result: The incidence of post-obturation pain was 10.0%(7/70)in single-visit group and 11.1%(8/72) in multiple-visit group after a week, there was no difference between two groups(X~2=0.05,P0.05).The total success rate was 97.1%(68/70)in single-visit group and 93.1%(67/72) in multiple-visit group, there was no difference between two groups(X~2=1.27,P0.05). Conclusion: The effect of single-visist root canal treatment on teeth with chronic apical periodontitis in the aged is obvisious, which is an effective treatment method.
