Abstract
In this paper, benzoic acid was synthesized via oxidation of benzaldehyde, using hydrogen peroxide as oxidation in alkaline water as solvent. It was investigated that the concentration of alkaline, the reaction temperature and the molar rate have an effect on yield rate. The results showed that the yield of benzoic acid under the optimum conditions was up to 89%.The optimum conditions were that the concentration of potassium hydroxide is 30%,the reaction temperature is 40 ℃ and the reaction molar rate is n(benzaldehyde)∶n(30% hydrogen peroxide)=1∶4.In the end,the aim product is benzoic acid through melting point detecting and IR spectra.
