Abstract
Objective: To investigate the relationship between abnormal cellular apoptosis of the trophoblasts and spontaneous abortion. Methods: The abortion-prone CBAXDBA/2 matings were established as the model of spontaneous abortion and the non-abortion-prone CBAXBALB/c matings as the model of normal pregnancy.SABC immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of Bcl-2/Bax,Fas/FasL in trophoblasts of spontaneous abortion and normal pregnancy model at day 13 of gestation.Apoptotic cells were detected by terminal deoxynucleotidy1 transferase-mediated dUTP-biotin nick ending labeling(TUNEL).Results: In spontaneous abortion model, apoptotic index(AI)of decidua tissue was significantly higher than that of normal pregnancy model(P0.01).The expression of Bax was higher than that of normal pregnancy model(P0.05) while the FasL expression was lower than that of normal pregnancy model(P0.01).Fas and Bcl-2 expression showed no significant difference between two models(P0.05).Conclusions: To break the regulation of trophoblast apoptosis may directly or indirectly result in spontaneous abortion during early gestation. The Bcl-2/Bax and Fas/FasL systems may be important in the regulation of trophoblast apoptosis.
