Abstract
Zinc electrodes in Zn/Ni and Zn/air batteries had the benefits of high specific energy density and low cost But the zinc electrode had problems as shape change, dendrite and capacity loss while cyclingAn accelerated test for zinc plates was developed A number of additives was screened to see if they improved zinc utilization under deep cycling Calculating the cumulative capacity of the zinc electrode, the results showed that bismuth oxide and acetylene black could improve the deep cycling life of zinc electrodes The mechanism of the cycling capacity loss of zinc plates were investigated by SEM It was found that the major cause of capacity loss was a decrease in the porosity of active material of zinc electrodes
