Abstract

Objective To survey the arsenic content of inhabitants' drinking water and endemic arsenic poisoning in Hebei province.Methods The investigated sites were randomly sampled in possible regions where determination of arsenic content in drinking water and survey on endemic arsenic poisoning was carried out.Results Arsenic content was between0~0.048mg/L and was totally below the normal standard in the528water samples collected in125villages of25towns belong to5counties.The arsenic content in Yangyuan and Weichang counties located in mountain areas in northern part was relatively higher,with the mean of arsenic content in drinking water being over0.01mg/L.The arsenic content in Sanhe,Longyao and Boye counties located in plain areas in southern part was relatively lower,with the mean of arsenic content in drinking water being below0.01mg/L.No patient suffering from endemic arsenic poisoning was found during the survey in125villages.Conclusions The arsenic content in inhabitants' drinking water in Hebei province is at low level.It is not found that endemic arsenic poisoning prevailed in Hebei province.
