Abstract

Objective To find the trend of antibacterial resistance rate of extended-spectrum β-lactamases(ESBLs) producing K.pneumoniae and E.coli for the guidance of rational use of antibiotics. Methods K.pneumoniae and E.coli had been isolated from clinical samples of hospitals in Shenzhen District from July 2001 to December 2004,and antibiotic resistance in either ESBLs producing or non-producing strains were analyzed and reviewed. Results A total of 187 isolates of K.pneumoniae were ESBLs producing, and the positive rate was 43%;while for the E.coli,332 isolates were ESBLs producing, and the positive rate was 44%.The ESBLs producing isolates displayed multi-drug resistance to penicillins, cephalosporins, monobactams, aminoglycosides, quinolones and ampicillin/ sulbactam,et al.The drug resistance rate was significantly higher than that of the ESBLs non-producing isolates(P0.001).Both of them were still highly sensitive to imipenem and meropenem. Conclusion The positive rates of ESBLs producing K.pneumoniae and E.coli in this area are high and they exhibit multi-drug resistance. In order to prevent the ESBLs producing K.pneumoniae and E.coli infection outbreak,to perform more bacteria cultures and drug sensitivity tests should be emphasized before medication.
