Extraction of solanesol by dynamic saponification method

Abstract

Solanesol was extracted in the waste tobacco leaves by dynamic saponification method of ethanol and solvent naphtha.The effects of main factors on saponification reaction were discussed and the optimum saponification conditions were as followed: sodium hydroxide as saponification reagent,6# solvent naphtha used as extracting solvent to extract solanesol from tobacco crude extract,sodium hydroxide dissolved in volume fraction 80% ethanol,the mass ratio of sodium hydroxide to dry tobacco crude extract was 1∶4,saponification time was 2.5 h.The results showed that under the optimized condition,the yield of solanesol was 119.4% by dynamic saponification extraction,which was 9.3% higher than that by conventional saponification extraction.The mass fraction of solanesol in tobacco crude extract was 19.6%,which was 2.94% higher than that by conventional saponification extraction.In addition,the extracting process was simplified and the operation procedure and the consumption of solvent were greatly decreased by dynamic saponification extraction.It is a fast and efficient method for extraction of solanesol.
