Abstract

[Objective] To investigate the rural health status of drinking water modification project, so as to provide sci-entific basis for future development of the rural drinking water safety project plan. [Methods] Health survey and water quality testing were performed to the agricultural water modification projects which were completed from 2005 to 2007 [Results] 117 water samples were collected with the qualified rate of 61.54%. Nitrate nitrogen, bacteria, and the total coliform bacteria of these water samples exceeded the national standard. The quality rate of water supplied by pipe network among villages was high-er than that of single-village water supplied; The quality rate of type II, III, and IV water supply projects was higher than that of type V water supply project; The quality rate of groundwater was higher than that of surface water; The quality rate of deep groundwater was higher than that of the shallow groundwater; There was significant difference among the quality rates of differ-ent water treatment ways. The water source protection, health organization and management system as well as disinfection mea-sures of the drinking water modification project were not completely implemented. [Conclusion] Effect of the rural drinking-water modification projects is not satisfying, there still are some problems about the health and safety of the drinking water in some areas, and it should be brought attention from the government and related departments.
