Abstract

Objective:To ascertain the effect of Captopril on tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α) and interleukin-8(IL-8) in rats with acute lung injury. Methods: Thirty-six Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups: control group,ALI group and CAP group(n=12 in each group).CAP group received Captopril(5 mg/kg) by intra-peritoneal injection, and Control group and ALI group were given equal amount of 0.9% NaCl solution. The rats in ALI and CAPgroups were exposed to smoke to set up the model of smoke inhalation injury 15 minutes later. The arterial blood gases were analyzed 5 minutes and 5 hours after the procedure, and the serum concentration of TNF-α and IL-8 was measured 5 hours after establishment of the model. Results: Compared with control group, the serum concentration of TNF-α and IL-8 in ALI group was significantly elevated(P0.01).The serum concentration of IL-8 was significantly lower in CAP group than that in ALI group(P0.05),and the arterial blood gas was improved obviously. There were no significant difference of TNF-α between CAP group and ALI group(P0.05).Conclusion: Captopril may reduce the serum concentration of IL-8 in rats with acute lung injury, and it has no significant effect on TNF-α.
