Abstract

To measure the susceptibility of Candida spp. against antifungal agents in vulvovaginal candidiasis(VVC) cases, API 20 CAUX method was used to identify Candida species and according to the NCCLS M 27A scheme 126 strains were studied, including 120 isolates from the vaginal discharge of VVC patients, 5 reference strains and 1 quality control strain. The result showed that 105 of 120 isolates(87.5%) were Candida albicans, 6 of 120(7.5%)Candida glabrata,3 of 120(2.5%)Candida parapsilosis, 3 of 120 (2.5%)Candida tropicalis and 3 of 120(2.5%)Candida krusei. The mean MIC value(μg/mL)were: fluconazole 9.474±2.329, itraconazole 0.305±0.062, amphotericin B 0.599±0.062, ketoconazole 0.855±0.377, terbinafine 9.970±3.324, flucytosine 14.819±5.180, respectively. The result demonstrated high susceptibility of fluconazole, amphotericin B, itraconazole and ketoconazole, but lower sensitivity of terbinafine and flucytosine. The main species of yeast was still C.albicans.
