Consider the Whole and Convey the Spirit by Literal Translation——On Jiao Juyin's View on Literal Translation

Abstract

Jiao Juyin's translation theory has been ignored for long in China.This paper attempts to probe into his view on literal translation.It finds that Jiao's view on literal translation is dialectical,and free translation is not excluded.Jiao holds that a good translation results from the combination of literal translation and free translation.He focuses on literal translation in order to clear up people's misunderstanding or confusion of literal translation.
