The tuberculosis epidemic situation and study on control strategy in Guangxi

Objective To explore the tuberculosis trend and study tuberculosis control stratˉegy in Guangxi through analyzing tuberculosis epidemic situation.Methods The results of the last four epidemiological sampling surveys for tuberculosis and routine data of tuberculosis epidemic sitˉuation were analysed and summed up.Results The annual decline rate of standardized prevalence was0.3%from1979to2000.The annual decline rate of standardized prevalence of sputum smear positive was2.8%from1979to2000.The result of the surveys also showed that49.4%～65.2%of active tuberculosis cases were not found and44.7%～66.7%of sputum smear positive cases were not found.The cure rate of sputum smear positive was54.2%,completed treatment rate was16.9%,and defaulted rate was14.4%in2001.Conclusion The tuberculosis prevalence is still high in Guangxi.The main technical factors that tuberculosis cannot be effectively controlled over a long period of time are lowcase finding and cure rates of sputum smear positive.The effective approach of control tuberculosis is to implement earnestly DOTS strategy by World Bank Loan Tuˉberculosis Control Project in Guangxi.
