Clinical observation of different kinds of phacoemulsification intraocular lens implantation in diabetes patients with cataract

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effects and safety of phacoemulsification intraocular lens implantation,and extracapsular cataract extraction in treatment of diabetes patients with cataract.Methods 73 cases(81 eyes) diabetes patients with cataract were reviewed and the cases divided into 2 groups.Group one was the techniques included phacoemulsification intraocular lens implantation.Group two was the techniques of extracapsular cataract extraction.Follow-up was performed up to one week after surgery to part statistics best-corrected visual acuity at 1d and 1w,and the complications include corneal edema,anterior chamber flare,and macular edema at 1w postoperatively.Results The visual acuity of eyes were 0.1,0.1-0.5,0.5 respectively at 1 day after surgery were respectively 4 eyes,32 eyes,6 eyes in group one and respectively 6 eyes,30 eyes,3 eyes in group two.The eyes of visual acuity were 0.1,0.1-0.5,0.5 respectively at 1 week after surgery were 2 eyes,26 eyes,14 eyes in group 1 and 4 eyes,23 eyes,12 eyes in group 2.Compared with the complications in group one and group two after surgery including corneal edema,anterior chamber flare,macular edema.These complications of group one was less than that in group two.Conclusion Phacoemulsification intraocular lens implantation is a safe and effective surgery in treatment of diabetes patients with cataract.The complications after surgery are less than that of extracapsular cataract extraction.But the postoperative effects are related to diabetes process extent and the degree of lens nucleus.
