Abstract

Objective To study the efficacy and safety of Escitalopram in the treatment of senile deperession. Methods 76 senile patients with depression were randomly assigned to Escitalopram group and Venlafaxine group for six weeks.Hamilton depressive scale(HAMD)and treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS)were used to assess the clinical efficacy and adverse effects. Results The significant improvement rate of Escitalopram was 78.9% and that of Venlafaxine was 73.7%.There was no significant difference between the two groups(P0.05).The HAMD scores of both groups lowere very more significantly since the end of the 1st week compared with pretreatment(P0.01)and did continuously along with treatment lasting(P0.05).there was no significant difference in adverse effects(P0.05).Conclusion Escitalopram have significant efficacy, higher safety and better compliance.
