A clinical study on the therapeutic effects of injection with botulinum toxin A under direction of electromyography in treating spastic cerebral palsy

Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of injections with Botulinum toxin A(BTX-A)under direction of electromyography in treating spastic cerebral palsy children.Methods Ninety spastic cerebral palsy children were equally divided into three groups:group A,group B and group C.They were injected with BTX-A at several muscular sites under the direction of electromyography.Three different doses of BTX-A were administered to different groups(group A:3 U/kg;group B:4 U/kg;group C:5 U/kg).The Gross Motor Assessment Scale(GMFM)was used to assess motor function of functional areas in children.The modified Ashworth Scale was used to assess muscle spasticity.Rehabilitation therapy for three months was started After BTX A injection.Results The score of GMFM increased after treatment in different groups(P 0.05),but there were no statistical significances in the score among the different groups(P 0.05).The Ashwort grade alleviated after treatment in each group(P 0.05),but there were no statistical significance among all groups.Conclusions Both GMFM Scale and Ashwort grade of spastic cerebral palsy children were improved after being injected with BTX-A in 3-5 U/kg dose under direction of electromyography,but there were no statistical significance in therapeutic effect among different doses.
