Levels of Volatile Sulfur Compounds in Sulcular of Patients with Periodontitis b efore and after Initial Periodontal Therapy.

Abstract
Objective:To determine effect of initial periodontal th er apy on sulcular volatile sulfur compounds (VSC).Methods:Ei ght subjects diagnosed with chronic periodontitis were selected.VSC levels and p eriodontal clinical parameters from a total of 51 teeth were measured using a co mmercial sulfide-monitoring device (Diamond Probe/Perio 2000,Ann arbor, MI, USA) .Results:VSC level and periodontal clinical parameters wer e reduced significantly following the initial periodontal therapy.Con clusions:VSC may be a possible indicator for assessing the status of periodontal tissue.
