Comparison of the Volatile Sulfur Compounds Levels in Sulcular of Different Periodontal State

Objective:To compare the levels of sulcular volatile sulfur compounds(VSC) among three experimental groups in order to provide objective parameter for the diagnoses of periodontitis at early stage.Methods:Three experimental groups including the healthy,the gingivitis and the periodontitis patients were selected and the periodontal clinical parameters as well as the VSC levels were measured and recorded with a commercial sulfide-monitoring device(Diamond Probe/Perio 2000,Annarbor,Mi,USA) before therapy.Results:The levels of VSC in the periodontitis group was higher than that in the healthy group and the gingivitis group(P0.05).But there was no difference on the levels of VSC between the healthy group and the gingivitis one(P0.05).The results suggested that VSC could be associated with plaque index(PLI),probing depth(PD),bleeding index(BI) and clinical attachment level(CAL).Conclusion:VSC may be an objective parameter to indicate the condition of periodontal tissue.
