Effect of microwave on prognosis of otitis media with effusion in children

Abstract

Objective: To explore the prognosis of otitis media with effusion in children after treatment by microwave.Methods: The data of 152 children suffering from otitis media with effusion from October 2003 to October 2005 were analyzed retrospectively.The children were divided into microwave group(78 cases,86ears) and control group(74 cases,84 ears).Microwave group was divided into three subgroups according to disease course and two subgroups according to patients′ age. Results: The total response rate was 75.6% in the microwave group and 51.2% in the control group(P0.01).In the microwave group,there were significant differences in the two kinds of subgroups.Conclusion: Microwave is of value for the prognosis of otitis media with effusion in children,and the shorter the disease course is,the better the curative effect is,especially in younger children.
