Abstract
The Shanghai Dialect is an urban dialect with mixed nature. As a mesolect its basilect is the Songjiang Dialect, and both southern jiangsu Wu dialects and northern Zhejiang dialects are its acrolects. It should be an independent category in classification of Northern Wu Dialects with the most distinguished feature of five citation tones.
