Abstract
Objective The intratumoral microvessel count in gastric cancer was investigated to evaluate its metastatic potential. Methods The intratumoral microvessel density (MVD) was analyzed semiquantitively by immunohistochemical staining (SP) in 59 paraffin embedded gastric tumor specimens that were radically resected. Results MVD in gastric cancer was 42.7±24.8,mediam 36.The MVD was positively correlated with lymph node metastasis and vascular invasion (P= 0.016?8 and 0.017?6 ,respectively). The increased MVD revealed poor prognosis (P= 0.021?4 ).Conclusion Measurement of MVD is helpful to assess the metastasis potential and the prognosis of tumors.
