Abstract
The Ming and Qing dynasties were prosperous period of Changshu market towns economy,because many bureaucrats?landlords and businessmen one after another founded market towns, and invited outside investment . The development course of Changshu market towns unfolded the characteristic in Jiangnan,where the layout structure was the clamp river and the street for the market along water. Some market towns possessed characteristic handicrafts and markets.The population structure of market towns changed gradually, and the handicraft and commerce population increaesd greatly,with outside population larger and larger.During the late Qing dynasty appeared modern industry and the capitalism which waged labour in the cotton textile of Changshu market towns.
