Market towns developed very fast during the Ming and Qing dynasties.In the southern areas,such towns became the pronouns of towns.Because of the differences in natural environment and economic growth in different areas,the types of towns showed great diversity,especially in the north frontier areas.The type of towns in Longdong included military towns,post towns,commercial towns,and multifunction towns and so on.In general,the diversity was due to history and natural factors.
