Abstract
Objective To investigate the effects of continuous positive airway pressure(CPAP)treatment on insulin resistance in patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS).Methods Sixty patients with OSAHS were recruited.Their apnea hypopnea index(AHI)was 38.9±16.0,and BMI maintained at(27.1± 2.5)kg/m2.The homeostasis model assessment(HOMA)index was used to reflect IR and before and after 3 months' CPAP treatment. Results The HOMA index was significantly lower following 3 months' CPAP treatment than before treatment(2.04 ± 1.78 vs 3.53 ± 2.76,P 0.001).Conclusion CPAP treatment can significantly improve IR in OSAHS patients, which suggests that OSAHS is an independent risk factor of IR.
