Electroneurophysiologieal and clinical analysis of 45 patients with carpal tunnel syndrome

Abstract

Aim To observe the relativity of the clinical features and electroneurophysiologieal examination in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome(CTS).Methods Examination of conduction velocity and electric potential of median nerve of 72 nerves in 45 patients with CTS,and electromyogram examination of abductor pollicis brevis and abductor digiti minimi.Results The abnormality rates of five indexes in the electroneurophysiologieal examination including sensory conduction velocity of median nerve(SCV),distal motor latency(DML),motor conduction velocity(MCV),amplitude of the sensory nerve action potential(SNAP) and amplitude of the compound muscle action potential(CMAP) were respectively 100%,71%,45%,85% and 67%.The abnormality rate of electromyogram examination was high up to 79%.Conclusion Electroneurophysiologieal examination is sensitive in diagnosis of CTS.
