Clinical study on BIS( bispectral index ) monitoring during sevoflurane anesthesia in elderly patients

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the practicality of BIS monitoring during sevoflurane anesthesia. Methods A total of 60 aged patients with intravenous general anesthesia were randomly divided into BIS group( group A) and control group( group B). Patients in group A were given with anesthetic drugs by BIS,and patients in group B were given with sevoflurane according to the clinical experience of anesthetist. Patients in both groups received the examination of MBP,HR,BIS,eye opening time and Steward scores. The required dosage of anesthetics in operation was adjusted by anesthetist. Results The results of MBP,HR and BIS in group B were higher at T3 ~ T5 than those at T1( P 0. 05),and they were stable in group A. The recovery time( 8. 12 ± 1. 35 min) in group A was shorter than that of group B( 9. 73 ± 2. 05 min)( P 0. 05). Conclusion BIS monitoring is helpful in maintaining hemodynamic stability and avoiding the fluctuation of heart rate during sevoflurane anesthesia in elderly patients.
