Abstract
The story that Helianbobo destroyed Buddhism came into being during the early Tang dynasty and it was not consistent with the historical records that Helianbobo forced monks to worship him.During the period of Helian Xia,there were monks and Buddhists, the making of Buddhist images, the building of Buddhist towers and the conflict between politics and Buddhism. So the story of Helianbobo destroying Buddhism is not true.In fact, the story is the result of the debate among three religions during Tang dynasty. In order to fight against the influence of Taoism,Buddhism described Helianbobo,Tuo Batao and Yu Wenyong as stubborn persons who refused to believe in Buddhism. This kind of debating method of Buddhism disappeared gradually in the control of the theory of Zheng-shuo in Tang dynasty.
