A Comparison of Tragedy Consciousness and Tragedy Spirit between China and West

Tragedy includes tragedy consciousness and tragedy spirit in a broad sense.Differences in cultural backgrounds and philosophical views between east and west bring on different tragedy consciousness and spirit.The essay analyzes why and where China and West are different in tragedy consciousness and spirit.It considers that Chinese tragedy consciousness deriving from Confucian idea of going into the society,was cleared up by Buddhist and Taoist idea of renouncing the world,which consequently leads to the lack of tragedy spirit.However,western tragedy consciousness rooted from Plato's doctrine of absolute ideas displays lofty tragedy spirit through struggling with the world.
