Abstract

Lunar soil stimulant is a kind of geological material, which has similar mineral and chemical composition, similar physical and mechanical properties with lunar surface material. It is a geochemical copycat of lunar regolith.Scoria erupted by Jinlongdingzi Volcano, which is located in Longgang Volcano Groups in the western foot of Changbai Mountain in Huinan County,Jilin Province, were found to have similar mineral and chemical composition with lunar regolith sampled by Apollo 14 astronaut.Like lunar regolith, there are 20~40 wt.% glassy material in Jinlongdingzi scoria.Using Jinlongdingzi scoria as pristine material, authors developed a new lunar soil stimulant-CAS-1.We also measured the relative parameters of CAS-1 lunar soil stimulant, such as major chemical composition and trace element, mineral composition, density, particle shape and particle size distribution, shear strength, complex dielectric constant et.al..CAS-1 is an ideal low titanium lunar soil stimulant, which has similar mineral and chemical composition, and similar physical mechanical properties with lunar regolith sampled at Apollo 14 landing site.
