Abstract
Objective: This study aims to identify the relationship between the waist-hip ratio( WHR), body mass index( BMI),and blood pressure of staff who work in Lanzhou electric company, and to discuss the benefits of monitoring them. Methods: Indexes such as the height, weight, circumference of waist and hip, systolic blood pressure( SBP), diastolic blood pressure( DBP) were measured. The relationship between WHR, BMI, and blood pressure were analyzed. Results: 34.7% of all participants were found to be overweight or obese, 87.0% were abdominal obese. The average SBP and DBP increased while BMI and WHR were increasing. A higher percentage of hypertension was noticed while the BMI and WHR increased. Conclusions: Overweight and abdominal obesity are associated with hypertension, and it can be effectively monitored by BMI and WHR.
