Abstract
Several afforestation models, advanced and adaptable to local conditions, have been achieved through study for the returning crop plots to forestry in Ordos area. (1) afforestation models in shifting sand area: Salix matsudana + Caragana microphylla wind sand prevention and fixing forest; Populus L. + Salix mongolica + Caragana microphylla wind sand prevention and fixing forest; Caragana microphylla + Amorpha fruticosa wind sand prevention and fixing forest. (2) afforestation models in hilly and gully area: Pinus tabulaeformis + Hippophae rhamnoides; Hippophae rhamnoides + Caragana microphylla; Pinus tabulaeformis + Prunus armeniaca . (3) afforestation models in arid harden hill ridges: double lines of Caragana microphylla; Saliz matsudana + Salix mongolica; Ulmus pumila L. + Caragana microphylla . After three years of practice, the preservation rate reached 100%, and the area of afforestation whose survival surpassed 70% occupied 84% in Jungar Banner and 82% in Otog Banner. These successful models have guiding significance to the re afforestation program in this area and can be used for reference to the practice in neighboring areas.
