Abstract

The core content of linguistic philosophy is theory of meaning. In pragmatics,Grice considers implicature as a form of language expression, which has no relationship with true value of propositions from utterances. From perspective of context and linguistic form, the utterance meaning can be divided into conventional implicature and conversational implicature. The philosophical origin can be traced back one hundred years ago,by Frege adding mark of the color of meaningto conventional implicature. Grice proposed idea that both conventional implicature and conversational implicature contain orientation and intention of speakers in language use. This paper study philosophical origin and essential features of conventional implicature and conversational implicature. What's more,it researches difference between conventional implicature and conversational implicature from angle of context dependence, calculability, cancelability, detachability, and true value condition.
