Evaluation on clinical efficacy of the treatment of combined internal-external therapy of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) for children with pneumonia

Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of combined internal-external therapy of TCM on children with pneumonia.Methods A total of 236 cases of pneumonia children documented as inpatient were divided into treatment group and control group at random.Besides the basic treatment of western medicine,oral administration of Xiaoerqingfei syrup and Antitussive powder were added to the 120 children in the treatment group and external application of Fuxiong powder were given additionally,while to the 116 children in the control group simulative placeboes were given instead of Fuxiong powder.The body improvement on their clinical symptoms and physical signs were observed after 10 days.Results The cured-markedly effective rates of treatment on disease and syndrome were 95.8% and 94.2% in the treatment group,88.8% and 86.2% in the control group.The days of being in hospital in the treatment group were significantly fewer than the control group.Conclusions Combined internal-external therapy demonstrates remarkable therapeutic effects on children with pneumonia.
