Combined Internal and External Treatment for 85 Children with Acute Pneumonia

Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of combined internal and external treatment for childhood acute pneumonia. Methods 166 children with acute pneumonia were divided into treatment group(n=85)and control group (n=81) in a randomization and double blind trial. Treatment group was given conventional western medical treatment and combined internal and external treatment of herbs, and control group received the conventional treatment combined with internal and external placebos. Clinical efficacy and effect of TCM syndromes were observed. Results The cure and remarkable effective rates of clinical efficacy and effect of TCM syndromes in patients with bacterial pneumonia in treatment group was 83.33% and 87.5%, and were 65.22% and 69.57% in control group respectively. The cure and remarkable effective rates of clinical efficacy and effect of TCM syndromes in patients with mycoplasmal pneumonia in treatment group were 81.08% and 83.78%, and were 60.00% and 62.86% in control group respectively. Conclusion Combined internal and external treatment of TCM has good effects on acute pneumonia.
