Metonymic and Metaphorical Analysis on Heart

Metaphor and metonymy are equally important cognitive mechanism.They offer a possible inroad into the conceptualization processes underlying them,and they are ways to color the utterances.Recent theories stress the fact that metaphor and metonymy are not opposed to each other but rather that they are types of interaction.Many metaphors have a metonymic basis.As the site of emotions,HEART is rich in both metonymic and metaphorical expressions related to emotional issues in Chinese and English.The more general the perspective HEART gets,the less metonymies and the more metaphors seem to be involved,although the metonymic basis seems to be kept intact for the metaphors as well.
