Discussion on the Causes of 70Cr3Mo Backup Roll Spalling of the Finishing Mill

Abstract

It has been deeply analysed to the destroied condition of the heavy spalling on 70Cr3Mo backup roll of a finishing mill.This article suggested the main causes of roll spalling,which were gas holes,shrinkage pipes and the wrong heat treatment.Through the calculations of alternative bending stress and the contact stress,the fatigue central point of the backup roll spalling is reviewed.
