Abstract

It has been analysed the causes for the heavy surface spalling of back-up roll for a finishing mill. The result shows that the main causes are gas hole, shrinkage and bad heat treatment. Through the calculatioin of alternative bending stress and contact stress, the fatigue causing the spalling of the back-up roll is opened out.
