Abstract

Objective To study the anti-aging effect of total flavone of hawthorn leaf (TFHL) in mice and in rats. Methods The old mice and aged rats induced by D-galactose were treated with TFHL through oral gavage. The activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in blood, the contents of lipofuscin (LF),malodndaldegyde (MDA) and SOD in brain and heart were determined by biochemical methods. Results TFHL could significantly improve the activities of SOD in brain and heart by biochemical methods. Conclusion TFHL has obvious anti-aging effects. The mechanisms maybe associated with in- creasing the activities of antioxidation enzymes and preventing lipid peroxidation in tissues.
