Abstract

Objective To explore the clinical efficacy of Citalopram in the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder(GAD).Methods 64 patients with generalized anxiety disorder were divided into two groups, the patients in research group(n=32) took orally Citalopram and control group(n=32) did Alprazolam for 4 weeks.Clinical efficacy was assessed with the Hamiton Anxiety Scale(HAMA) before and at the end of the 2nd and 4th week treatment. Results After treatment the HAMA scores of both groups significantly decreased compared with pretreatment(P0.01),the total effective rates were respectively 75% in research group and 78.1% in the control group at the end of the 4th week, which showed no significant difference. Conclusion Citalopram has significant curative effect equivalent to alprazolam on GAD and can be used as first-line drug for GAD.
