Abstract
As a new ideology in North America and Europe in recent years, landscape urbanism mostly emerges in the field of landscape architecture, architecture, urban planning and design. This paper gives a brief introduction of this ideology, and analyses and expounds its motive, meanings, field, value and prospect with traditional design disciplines. Then it explains the advantage of landscape urbanism theory of describing cities, establishing urban structure, restoring the social, cultural and aesthetic significance, converting landscape planning and design scale. Finally,it is pointed out that there are still diverse comprehensions of this ideology and the risk of boiling down all landscape practice to landscape urbanism should be avoided.
