Abstract
Objective To compare the clinical efficacy of acupuncture and moxibustion with simvastatin in treating hyperlipidemia. Methods Sixty hyperlipidemia patients were randomly allocated to treatment and control groups,30 cases each. The treatment group received acupuncture and moxibustion and the control group, medication. The clinical syndromes, blood lipids and BMI were examined in the two groups. Results Acupuncture and moxibustion reduced cholesterol, low density lipoprotein and triglyceride levels significantly. There was no statistically significant difference in decreasing blood lipids between the acupuncture and simvastatin groups(P0.05).Conclusion Acupuncture and moxibustion can significantly decrease blood lipids. The effect is not different from that of simvastatin.
