Abstract

Duyun Dialect is included in Southwestern Mandarin, which keeps entering tone categories from the Middle Ancient times. But consonant rhythm-end has disappeared and tone categories have lost the falling tone. Also entering tone's division of Duyun Dialect has its own laws, being different from the ones of Southwestern Mandarin. In its modern dialect, some entering tone words have still been divided into entering tone and non-entering tone categories while some have fallen into level tone, the falling-rising tone, and the falling tone and a few tone words have become entering tone, which maybe relates to entering tone characters of the early ancient Chinese.
